Cease & Desist: Commissioner Chris Boice
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 13, 2026
Attorney for Steve Hammerson Issues Cease-and
Desist Demand Citing Oregon’s Corrupt Practices Act
Legal demand challenges false political advertising concerning election results and school-board
voting record.
ROSEBURG, OR — Attorney Stephen J. Joncus of Joncus Law PC issued a formal cease-and-desist
letter on October 13, 2026, on behalf of Douglas County Commissioner candidate Steve
Hammerson in response to political radio advertisements containing statements the campaign
maintains are false.
The letter, addressed to Commissioner Chris Boice and Friends of Chris Boice, identifies false
claims concerning Hammerson’s position on accepting election results and his Roseburg School
Board voting record regarding student privacy improvements.

Joncus alleges that the advertising violates ORS 260.532, a provision of Oregon’s Corrupt
Practices Act, which prohibits knowingly or recklessly publishing false statements of material
fact concerning political candidates.
The letter demands that the advertising cease immediately and requires written confirmation by
4:00 p.m. on October 15, 2026 that the advertisements have been withdrawn and will not be
republished.
The Hammerson campaign maintains that the advertisements misrepresent documented facts
and has referred the matter to legal counsel for appropriate action.
